Kentucky Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams Named Scholar All-America Teams
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association has named the University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams to the distinguished list of 2019 Scholar All-America teams for the spring semester.
“Coach Jorgensen has produced a model that the University can be proud of in every way – academically, athletically and in the community,” said CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart.
A record 777 teams from 480 institutions were named to the list, highlighted by Kentucky men’s and women’s GPAs of 3.45 and 3.57. The honor comes just two months after the women’s team earned the Academic Team of the Year award at the 17th annual CATSPY Awards in April.
Teams achieved Scholar All-America status in each NCAA division with men’s teams seeing the biggest gains. The increase can be attributed to the growing number of men’s teams.
“For three years now, we’ve seen schools add more men’s teams than women’s and now we’re seeing those new teams produce the caliber of student-athlete we’ve come to expect in swimming and diving,” Earhart said.
At 3.45, the median GPA among women’s teams was the highest on record. The men’s median of 3.23 was down slightly from the fall semester. For the first time in program history, over one hundred men’s teams earned Scholar All-America honors.
The CSCAA will announce its individual Scholar All-Americans next week.
