Reed, Rethlake and Vick Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky softball is well known for its on-field success, but sometimes its success in the classroom gets overlooked. The Wildcats posted a GPA above a 3.5 this spring, and now there are more honors to be added.

Senior Erin Rethlake, junior Katie Reed and sophomore Bailey Vick were named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Friday morning, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

With three winners, the Wildcats had the most representatives on the District 2 All-Academic Team, which encompasses the District of Columbia, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

This is the first time in program history that Kentucky has had three members make the All-District Team in program history. The most prior to this was two – which happened in 2015 and 2017.

All three are now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later on in postseason play.

Rethlake, a senior from Huntington, Indiana is having the best offensive season of her career at the plate hitting over .300 and has been very clutch for the Wildcats in the circle as well. Last weekend, she pitched a complete game on Senior Day to give UK a spot in the Southeastern Conference Tournament with an 8-4 win over the No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks. Rethlake will be graduating with a degree in Special Education for Moderate/Severe Disabilities

Reed, a junior from St. Louis, Missouri has essentially done it all in her three-year career in the Blue and White, as she adds to her trophy case with another national honor. Reed was named Second Team All-SEC, All-Defensive SEC and the 2018 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year this past week for her season. She is hitting over .350 on the year and has scored a team-leading 42 runs. Reed is a Human Health Sciences major with aspirations of dental school, and has a 4.0 GPA

Leading the Wildcats in batting average, sophomore Bailey Vick was named All-District for the first time in her career on Friday. The Paducah, Kentucky native is hitting over .370 on the year and leads the Wildcats in hits and on-base percentage. Vick is an Accounting major and has a 4.0 GPA.
