McLaughlin on Pre-Conference Meet Watch List for The Bowerman
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field freshman Sydney McLaughlin is on the pre-conference championships edition of watch list for The Bowerman, which was released on Wednesday.
Teammate Jasmine Camacho-Quinn was listed as “receiving votes.”
McLaughlin has assaulted the collegiate record books this season, including running the fourth-fastest 400-meter hurdles performance in NCAA history 53.60 in her season-opener in her signature event. That time lowered her world junior record, after she set the indoor 400m (flat) world junior record this season.
She currently leads the nation in the 400m hurdles by more than two seconds as well as the 400m (50.07), ranks second in the 200m and eighth in the 100m.
Additionally, McLaughlin and Camacho-Quinn are on UK’s nation-leading 4x400m relay, and No. 4-ranked 4x100m relay.
Camacho-Quinn led UK to the team title at the National Relays, running on the first place 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay; both relay times rank in the NCAA top-five. She won the 100m hurdles in a slightly windy nation-leading 12.53w (+2.6), and ran a 200m PB 22.69. Her 100H time leads the NCAA qualifying list by more than .10 seconds. It was the fourth-fastest wind-aided (wind greater than 2.0 m/s) and the eighth-fastest all-conditions time in history. She also ran the second leg on UK’s winning 4x100m relay, which ran a season best 42.84, which ranks No. 4 in the nation and ran the second leg on UK’s winning 4x400m relay, which ran 3:27.07.
The Bowerman is awarded annually to the top athlete in collegiate track and field.
