Will Bushamuka Named to SEC Men’s Tennis Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Will Bushamuka of the Kentucky men’s tennis team was named to the Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Community Service team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Each year, the community service team looks to highlight athletes from each school who give back to their communities in superior service efforts.
Bushamuka contributed to a number of service projects over the last year. Bushamuka traveled to Panama in the summer of 2017 as part of a UK Athletics service trip. In Panama, Bushamuka served people by serving lunch and playing games with at-risk youth that attend an inner-city school in Panama City; participated in building a community center in a poor neighborhood just outside the city; traveled to a rural school and ran a daylong sports clinic; and interacted with indigenous people from the Embera group along the Chagres River.
Bushamuka and the men’s tennis team also spent time at local elementary schools, reading and interacting with students. The squad has also helped with God’s Pantry, which partners with UK athletics and helps feed local Kentuckians.
On the court, Bushamuka is ranked No. 48 in the nation and has four ranked wins in singles this season.
UK will continue its season on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
