Wildcat Men Set to Wrap Up Season at NCAA Championships
MINNEAPOLIS – Four Wildcats are set to represent Kentucky men’s swimming and diving at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis this week.
The championships will take place from March 22-24 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.
Junior diver Seb Masterton makes his third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, having earned All-America honorable distinction in both of his previous trips. The Reading, England, native qualified on all three disciplines this season, finishing in the top seven of every event at the Zone C Diving Championships earlier this month. The junior also was in the top six of all three at the Southeastern Conference Championships, including taking the bronze medal on the 3-meter springboard.
Senior Isaac Jones will make his first appearance at the NCAA Championships, having qualified in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle events. Jones set new school records in both events at the Ohio State Invitational in November, and enters the championships with the 15th-fastest time in the 500 (4:14.72) and the 22nd in the mile (14:48.61).
Divers Kevin Frebel and Chase Lane round out Kentucky’s NCAA qualifiers with both making their debut at the national meet. Frebel will compete on 1-meter, while Lane qualified on platform.
Each day of the meet follows a set schedule of swimming prelims at 11 a.m. ET, diving prelims at 1:15 p.m. and the finals beginning at 7 p.m. each evening.
ESPN3 will stream live the men’s championship finals sessions Friday and Saturday. All additional sessions can be streamed live on the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships microsite at www.gophersports.com.
