Dukes Claims SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a stellar performance against the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Southeastern Conference office announced Tuesday morning that Kentucky freshman Sidney Dukes has been named SEC Freshman of the Week. 
The Tyler, Texas native continued to play a key role in Kentucky’s overall production. The first-year Wildcat led the Blue and White to a team-best score this season of 195.525 behind a personal-best 39.375 in the all-around, good for second overall. 
Dukes made her mark on beam, coming in second to classmate Alex Hyland with a 9.875. The freshman also finished top five on vault (9.875, team best), bars (9.8) and floor (9.825). 
Dukes has been a standout for the Wildcats all season, leading the team in single events on 10 different occasions this year (four vault, two bars, two beam, two floor routine). On top of her team bests, Dukes has claimed six event titles during the 2016 campaign, with two all-around titles and one event crown in every rotation. 
Kentucky will compete in a pair of meets this weekend, first hosting Missouri in Memorial Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. The meet, dubbed the “Father-Daughter meet,” will be broadcast live on the SEC Network. The Wildcats will then head to Muncie, Ind., to face Ball State, Kent State and Lindenwood on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m.
