No. 18 Kentucky Opens Campbell/Cartier Classic on Thursday

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 18 Kentucky
softball team will complete its 11-day west coast swing this weekend, as it
competes in the 2016 Campbell/Cartier Classic hosted by San Diego State
University. The Wildcats will play five games over a three-game stretch against
SDSU, the University of San Diego, California, Texas Tech and South Dakota.

All games for UK will be live on
StatBroadcast, with the Kentucky/San Diego State game on Thursday night being
the only game available online for video or audio streaming during the
tournament.

Kentucky will open the tournament with a
doubleheader on Thursday playing the University of San Diego Toreros at 6:30
p.m. ET before capping off the night with a 9 p.m. ET clash against the SDSU
Aztecs. Friday will see just one game for the Wildcats, as they face off
against the California Golden Bears at 5 p.m. ET.

The Campbell/Cartier Classic wraps up on
Saturday afternoon with two games for Kentucky beginning with the South Dakota
Coyotes at Noon ET followed by a 2:30 p.m. ET capper against the Texas Tech Red
Raiders out of the Big XII.

Kentucky
capped off a successful Kajikawa Classic on opening weekend, going 5-1 with
wins over four ranked teams in No. 4 Oregon (8-6), No. 20 Utah (1-0), No. 22
Arizona State (5-3) and No. 25 Notre Dame (10-7) in the Valley of the Sun. The
Southeastern Conference was able to pick up six wins over ranked teams on
opening weekend – with four of those six wins coming from UK.

Senior
pitcher Kelsey Nunley went 3-0 on the weekend, pitching seven scoreless innings
against Utah, a complete game against Oregon and coming on in relief to allow
just one earned run in Kentucky’s road win at Arizona State on Monday. Junior
Meagan Prince earned the opening day win over Notre Dame in Kentucky’s 10-7 win
over the Fighting Irish to lift off the season.

Freshman
Abbey Cheek launched her first career home run on Saturday in Kentucky’s 8-6
win over Oregon which was a grand slam, one of five home runs clubbed by the
Wildcat offense on the weekend. Cheek tallied a team-high eight RBIs over the
course of the tournament. Cheek was just one of three freshman in Rachel Lawson’s
opening day starting lineup, as second basemen/shortstop Katie Reed hit .421 on
the weekend, going 8-for-19 with six runs scored and two RBI and freshman Jenny
Schaper appeared in five of Kentucky’s six games with two two-run doubles.
