UK Rifle Prepared for GARC Championship Weekend

LEXINGTON,
Ky. – The Kentucky rifle team will travel to Oxford, Miss., this weekend to
compete in the Great American Rifle Conference Championships, a three-day
event, at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Center on the Ole Miss campus.

Kentucky is one of nine teams,
whom are all ranked in the CRCA top-20 rankings, competing this weekend and the
second-highest ranked in the conference to No. 1 West Virginia.

“Going into
postseason we always have high expectations,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said.
“There’s some distance between us and some teams above us, but I think if we
perform at the level we’ve been training at it should be a pretty good
Conference Championship. I know we’ve been preparing for this. The team is
excited about going to Mississippi and showing what they’re capable of. If we
focus on the task at hand we should see the results we’re looking for.”

The Wildcats enter this year’s
championships with an 11-2 overall record and 5-2 in the Great American Rifle
Conference. 

The championship weekend will
officially begin Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the individual smallbore.

Team competition is slated for
Saturday, opening at 8 a.m with smallbore and individual air rifle to follow at
10:40 a.m. The team smallbore finals will begin at 6:15 p.m. to conclude
Saturday’s action.

On Sunday, the team air rifle
will begin at 9 a.m. with the finals starting at 1 p.m.

Ole Miss, Army, Kentucky,
Memphis, Navy, North Carolina State, Nebraska, West Virginia, and Akron are the
nine teams competing in the GARC Championships.

In 2015, Kentucky finished in
second place at the championships, while West Virginia won the title.
