Twelve Wildcats to Compete at NCAA Last Chance Qualifiers

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky will send a group of swimmers to compete in a pair of NCAA Last Chance Qualifiers, held in Columbus, Ohio, and Athens, Ga.  The qualifiers will serve as a way for the Wildcats to get better seeding for invitation to the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, and the long course meters portion of the qualifier in Columbus will serve those wanting to make an Olympic Trials qualifying mark.

Kyle Higgins will be the only swimmer competing in Athens this weekend.  He will look to lower his seed time of 1:43.98 that he notched en route to winning the B final at the 2016 SEC Championships last week.  

In Columbus Ann Davies and Kendra Crew will be competing in the 200 breast.  The duo are the top two swimmers in the event in Kentucky history, with Crew breaking her own record in 2:10.89 while Davies moved up to the No. 2 spot on the all-time list in 2:12.94.  

Other Wildcats are also slated to compete in the LCM portion of a variety of events. On the women’s side, Morgan Belli, Kelly Berger, Kayla Churman, Kristen Keifer and Meredith Whisenhunt will look for their Olympic Trials cuts. The men will see David Dingess, Sean Gunn, Josh Swart and Walker Thaning vie for a spot in Omaha.
