Each week, Wildcats in the Pros catches up with some former Kentucky student-athletes who are doing big things in professional athletics.
Former Wildcats Dominate NBA Statistical Rankings
A total of five former Wildcats currently rank in the top five of the NBA’s major statistical categories for the 2015-16 season.
Sacramento Kings’ point guard and former Cat Rajon Rondo leads the league with an average of 12 assists per game. Rondo’s teammate and another former Wildcat, DeMarcus Cousins, is fourth in the league in scoring average (27.3) and fifth in rebounding average (11.3).
Former Kentucky All-American Anthony Davis, who currently stars for the New Orleans Pelicans, is averaging 2.22 blocks per game, which is currently third in the league.
Washington Wizards’ point guard and former Wildcat John Wall dishes out 9.8 assists per game, ranking him third-highest in the league. In addition, Wall is averaging 20.1 points per game this season.
Enes Kanter of the Oklahoma City Thunder is shooting .565% from the floor, the fourth-highest in the league this season. Kanter was selected third overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2011 NBA draft after his time in Lexington.
Kentucky is the only school to have more than one former player ranked in the top five of the major NBA statistical categories.
Holmes Looks for Redemption at WGC-Cadillac Championship
Last season, former Kentucky golfer J.B. Holmes was in position to win his first World Golf Championship event. He shot an opening-round 62 at the Trump National Doral course, and held the lead of the World Golf Championship – Cadillac Championship through three rounds.
But after leading for three rounds, Holmes carded his worst score of the week on Sunday, a three-over par 75, and he finished in second place, one shot behind the eventual winner Dustin Johnson.
Holmes returns to the Miami area this weekend for the 2016 version of the WGC-Cadillac Championship. The Trump National Doral course, known as the Blue Monster, favors longer hitters, which should fit Holmes nicely. Coverage of the tournament can be seen on Golf Channel and NBC Thursday through Sunday.
