Senior linebacker Sam Maxwell will have surgery to repair a torn labrum and his shoulder and will miss UK’s bowl game, which is expected to be officially announced Sunday.
The injury will effectively end Maxwell’s career at UK.
“He’s our leading interceptor and he’s made a bunch of tackles,” head coach Rich Brooks said. “It’s certainly a blow.”
Maxwell finishes the season with 80 tackles, including a team-high six interceptions. His interception late in the Georgia game sealed UK’s first victory in Athens, Ga., since 1977.
Without him, Jacob Dufrene, Ridge Wilson and Danny Trevathan are expected to see more time.
