It took a school-record tying 9-0 start to garner some attention, but clearly the coaches across the nation are finally taking notice.

The UK women’s basketball team picked up 23 votes in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after the team’s ninth straight victory to start the season, a 91-39 rattling of Florida A&M.

UK remains outside of the top 25, but just barely. Based on the votes, the Cats are ranked No. 31.

However, UK was unable to generate anymore votes in the Associated Press Poll, receiving just two votes in the rankings for the second straight week.

The Cats are trying to crack the top 25 for the first time since checking in at No. 24 the fourth week of the 2006-07 season.

UK will have a prime opportunity to gain even more national attention on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum, where the Cats will face archrival and last year’s national runner-up Louisville.
