No. 17 Kentucky Set to Host No. 11 Illinois, Morehead State

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 17 Kentucky men’s tennis team will host a double header on Tuesday afternoon at the Boone Tennis Complex. UK will open the slate with a top-25 matchup, with Kentucky playing No. 11 Illinois at 2 p.m. before facing Morehead State at 6 p.m.
Last time out, it looked like UK’s Ryotaro Matsumura would pull off yet another incredible comeback to clinch once again, but the freshman and the Wildcats fell short on Friday evening in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Vanderbilt at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The scenario was all too familiar, as the deciding match came down to Matsumura on the second court. Again, the Japan native found himself in a hole, this time 5-1, and again he forged an impressive comeback. The freshman phenom climbed back to take a 6-5 lead, before Vanderbilt’s Rhys Johnson tied the match and earned the tiebreaker win for a decisive 7-6 third set.
Kentucky enters the match with a 11-4 record including a 3-2 Southeastern Conference mark. Illinois is 8-6 this season while 0-1 in Big Ten play, while Morehead State is 3-6 with a 2-0 record in Ohio Valley Conference matches.
Kentucky enters the match with a pair of ranked singles player in William Bushamuka and Matsumura, resting at No. 23 and No. 108 respectively.
Illinois boasts two top-10 players in Aleks Vukic (No. 6) and Jared Hitzik (No. 8). Aron Hiltzik also joins the duo as a ranked opponent, resting at No. 63 in the country.
Morehead State does not have any members of the team ranked in singles or doubles play.
