Kentucky Picks Up Second Win of the Weekend With 4-1 Clinch of Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. –No. 21 Kentucky women’s tennis had its first perfect weekend in the Southeastern Conference of the season, going 2-0 with a win over No. 60 Missouri on Sunday afternoon.  The 4-1 clinch victory moves Kentucky to 16-7 (5-6) SEC this year, while the Tigers fall to 15-10 (2-9 SEC).

The Wildcats quickly secured the first point of the competition, with Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi retaining an unblemished record within conference play to lead the team in doubles.  The No. 2-ranked Kentucky duo downed Mizzou’s top pair of Bea Machado Santos and Brianna Lashway in a 6-1 set, and the Wildcats claimed the doubles point soon thereafter as No. 82 Nadia Ravita and Justina Mikulskyte defeated Clare Raley/Kelli Hine, 6-3, in No. 2 doubles.

Going into singles action, Ravita posted the first singles victory for UK on Court 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Brianna Lashway.  Missouri claimed its first point of the dual match when No. 60 Machado Santos upset No. 56 Mikulskyte on the top court in matching 6-3 sets, but Kentucky went on to win out for the rest of singles play.  In No. 4 singles, Akvile Paražinskaite went up against Brittany Lashway, coming away with a 6-2, 6-4 win over the elder of the Lashway sisters.

No. 53 Sutjiadi clinched the win for the Wildcats with her effort on Court 2, taking the first set against Hine, 6-3, before dropping a tightly-contested 7-6 second set.  Sutjiadi emerged victorious in the deciding set, downing Hine in a 6-4 decision to solidify her singles victory and that of the dual match.

Kentucky will wrap up the SEC regular season next weekend, hosting No. 56 Alabama and No. 13 Auburn at Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats will take on the Crimson Tide Friday at 6 p.m. ET before welcoming the Tigers on Sunday at noon.  Prior to the match against Auburn, Kentucky will honor its three seniors, Kate Lanier, Kirsten Lewis and Nadia Ravita, as part of Senior Day ceremonies.
