University of Kentucky sophomore quarterback Tim Couch has been named CNN/SportsIllustrated College FootballPlayer of the Week following his performance in Saturday’s 38-24 winover Louisville.

Couch completed 36 of 50 passes for 398 yards and four touchdowns in theWildcats’ victory. Couch’s 36 completions broke the school record of 30 completionsset by BillRansdell vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 9, 1985. The 398 passing yards erased theschool mark of 373 yards by Rick Norton vs.Houston on Nov. 13, 1965.

Couch’sday also made some Southeastern Conference record charts. His 36 completions isfifth-best in league history, behind the record of 39 by South Carolina’sSteve Taneyhill vs. East Carolina in 1994. Couch’s completion percentage of 72.0 isthe ninth-best in league annals (min.30 comp.), behind the record of 86.4 percent byTaneyhill vs.Mississippi State in 1995.
