LEXINGTON, KY. – Katie Eiserman recorded her seventh double-double of the year as the University of Kentucky volleyball team defeated the Lady Gamecocks of South Carolina in a tough 3-1 match Friday night at Memorial Coliseum, 15-12, 15-13, 13-15, 15-13.
The Wildcats (13-6, 4-2 SEC) were led by senior outside hitter LaTanya Webb with a match-high 25 kills. Fellow senior Jenny Muzzey recorded a double-double, with 14 kills and 13 digs to go along with seven total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Megan Weiskircher racked up 13 kills and tied a career-high with nine block assists.
“This was a great team effort,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We knew that South Carolina had a solid team. We had to be on our toes the whole time and work together as a team. This was a great challenge and a great win for us.”
The Lady Gamecocks (16-3, 4-2 SEC) were led by freshman right-side hitter Cally Plummer with 13 kills and 11 digs in the losing effort against the Wildcats. Senior setter Ashley Edlund notched 44 assists, seven kills and six block assists on the night.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Oct. 18, when they take on the Lady Bulldogs of Georgia at 2 p.m. in UK’s Memorial Coliseum.
