The 20th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis topped Auburn forthe second time in five days on Thursday, besting the Tigers 5-3 inopening-round action at the Southeastern Conference Tennis Championships inBaton Rouge, La.

Carolina Mayorga avenged a Sunday loss to AU’s Carolina Maurer with a 3-6,6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles and teamed with fellow freshman ShannonStafford to clinch the UK victory with a 8-2 win over the Tigers’ JudithBoban and Lucy Altman at No. 3 doubles. Stafford, Kelly Brown and BrookeSkeen also claimed singles wins for the Cats (14-8).

With the win over Auburn (10-11), UK advances to face eighth-ranked OleMiss (18-4) in second-round action at 2 p.m. on Friday.
