The University of Kentucky softball team enjoyed a record-breaking seasonen route to 23 wins this year, the most ever in school history. Alltotaled, the Wildcats broke or tied 76 new school records. Below are someof the records that were broken along with some highlights of UK’s thirdseason of softball…

*On April 15 at the UK Softball Complex, the Wildcats won its 20th game ofthe season with a 9-5 victory over Morehead State to break the schoolrecord for wins (in 1997 UK won 11 games and then won 19 games in 1998).

*The Cats defeated an opponent ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top Ten forthe first time in school history (a 4-2 win over No. 10 South Carolina inColumbia).

*107 multiple-hit games (82 two-hit games, 24-three hit games, and onefour-hit game) led by sophomores Tiffany Kruse(24) and LeslieKwiatkowski(23).

*Kruse tied the SEC record for the most hits in consecutive at-bats withsix in back-to-back games against Georgia on April 9.

*In UKs season finale, a 9-7 win over Tennessee in Knoxville, Kwiatkowskitied the SEC mark for home runs in a game with two.

*UKs second place finish at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, (March15-17).

*Kruse tied the single-game mark for hits in a game with four versusEastern Kentucky (3/24/99).

*Kruse and Kwiatkowski broke the single-game record for RBIs with five.

*Two triples by Kruse against Eastern Kentucky broke the single-game mark.

*Kwiatkowskis two home runs against Tennessee in UKs final game of theseason is a new school record.

*Kwiatkowskis eight total bases in that game against Tennessee is a newsingle-game record.

*Against Florida in Gainesville, Fla. on April 23, junior Keary Camunasset a new record forstrikeouts in a game with 13.

*Kwiatkowski broke ten UK single-season records including: batting average(.372), runs scored (40), hits (77), home runs (8), RBI (43), sluggingpercentage (.565), and on-base percentage (.414).

*Freshman Beth Fogle stole 34 bases this season to finish second in theSEC and set a new UK single-season mark.

*Freshman Jennifer Howland tied the school mark for sacrifice bunts with 11.

*Junior outfielder Michelle Buccis 1.000 fielding percentage for theseason is tops in UK history and Camunas broke her own single-season markwith 164 strikeouts.

*UK set new team records in batting average for a season (.259), runsscored in a game (14 vs. Saint Louis), runs scored in a season (220), hitsin a game (15 vs. Coastal Carolina), hits in a season (451), triples in aseason (15), home runs in a season (11), RBI in a game (14 vs. St. Louis),RBI in a season (194), total bases in a season (567), stolen bases in agame (8), stolen bases in a season (89), lowest ERA in a season (3.22), andtied the school record in shutouts (7).

*UK had a team GPA of 3.2 for the spring semester.

*Junior Sarah Snider, Bucci, Camunas, Kruse, and Kwiatkowski were named tothe 1999 SEC Softball Academic Honor Roll.

*Kwiatkowski was selected to the 1998-99 GTE Academic All-District IVSecond Team.
