COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team rallied from a shaky Saturday showing to shine in Sunday’s final round at the Lady Gamecock Classic.

In “A” flight singles, UK’s Massoumeh Emami topped 47th-ranked Muriel Verban of Wake Forest, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4), to claim third place. Also in consolation action, Kelly Brown of Kentucky downed Leigh Eichelberger of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-4, for seventh place. The “B” flight saw UK’s Christy Sigurski claim fifth place after ousting Lynn-Yin Tan of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-3, while Brooke Skeen of UK finished fourth after falling, 6-3, 6-1, to Maren Haus of Wake Forest.

Shannon Stafford of Kentucky grabbed fifth-place honors in the “C” flight, topping Lea Miller of Wake Forest, 6-3, 7-5. UK’s Jackie Spicijaric finished eighth, falling to Stefanie Woerz of Clemson, 6-1, 6-2.
