Kentucky scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back as they cruised to a 11-3 victory over Morehead State Tuesday at Cliff Hagan Stadium on the UK campus. UK coach Keith Madison is one win away from his 600th career victory. UK improved its record to 13-20 despite being outhit 12-9. UK starter Jason Chaney (1-5) picked up his first victory of the season, allowing seven hits and only one run in five innings of work. Sophomore Aaron McGlone earned his second career save in four innings of relief. McGlone scattered five hits and struck out four. UKis David Cheatle and Aaron McGlone drew one-out walks in the first inning and junior Josh Loggins knocked Cheatle in with a RBI single to center field. McGlone scored on a single by senior Andy Bendix. Loggins scored when Andy Bendix stole second and the throw was late to home, giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. Mark Murphy and Justin Bunch drew walks to load the bases for junior Nate Linder. Linder delivered with a two-run single. The Wildcats sent all nine batters to the plate in the first. The game remained scoreless until the fifth when Morehead State put its first run on the board with an RBI groundout by Mark Dixon. Morehead State (12-22) cut the deficit to 5-2 in the sixth after Jason Kennedy doubled and scored on a single by Cameron Langham. Justin Bunch, who had two RBIs, increased UKis lead to 6-2 in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. McGlone reached on a fielderis choice in the seventh, scoring Green from third. Loggins added to the total in the seventh with an RBI double, his 11th of the season. UK added three insurance runs in the eighth. Left-hander Mike Burchett (2-1) picked up the loss after allowing three hits and five runs in one inning of work. Loggins went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Linder and Cheatle also had two hits. Green and freshman John Wilson extended their hitting streaks to six games. Kennedy led Morehead State with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate. UK concludes its 12-game homestand on Wednesday against Western Carolina at 3 p.m.
