The first day of the Rod McCravy Memorial gave Matt Kavanagh his fifth first-place finish of the season.
Kavanagh’s toss of 60-9.25 earned him top billing in the men’s weight throw while teammate Jamie Shannon won second place honors with his throw of 59-10.5.
In the men’s pole vault, Kentucky’s Chris Daniel finished tied for fifth place with a mark of 15-00.25. Unattached competitor Tim Mack won the event with a meet-record vault of 18-00. The previous record was set at last year’s meet by unattached competitor Jeff Core. Action continues Saturday morning at 10:30 at Nutter Field House.
