LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s tennis assistant coach Michelle Andersonhas been named the Southeast Region’s Assistant Coach of the Year, the NCAAannounced Sunday.
A native of Bloemfontein, South Africa, Anderson is in her second seasonas an assistant for UK and helped guide UK to a 15-10 record this year andthe Cats’ highest ranking since 1994.
UK head coach Mark Guilbeau coached Anderson for two years while servingas an assistant at Georgia. Anderson helped lead the Bulldogs to the NCAATeam Championship in 1994, the same year she won the Rolex National IndoorDoubles title with partner Angela Lettiere.
Anderson was named the 1997 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year,SEC Tournament MVP and won the 1997 SEC Sportsmanship Award, making her thefirst player to ever win all three honors in the same season. She was alsonamed to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and is a two-time member of theRolex/ITA All-Star Team.
A four-time All-SEC selection, Anderson was the only four-time doublesAll-American in Georgia school history and was the 1997 NCAA DoublesRunner-up. She was named ITA Doubles Player of the Month in March of 1996and finished 1994 as a member of the top-ranked collegiate doubles team inthe nation.
Anderson graduated from Georgia in 1997 with a degree in consumerjournalism.
