LEXINGTON, Ky. – Melissa Trudeau-Langelier, a 5-10 point guard from Quebec,Canada, signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for theWildcats, UK Coach Bernadette Mattox announced Tuesday.
As a senior at Lucien-Page High School in Montreal,Trudeau-Langelier was a member of the Boys’ Juvenile AAA team. As thestarting point guard, she averaged seven points, nine assists and threerebounds per game. While playing for the girls’ league as a junior, sheaveraged 23 points, seven assists and eight rebounds per game.
“We are extremely excited about Melissa becoming a KentuckyWildcat,” Mattox said. “She has a great understanding for the game andsees the floor very well. She will dazzle the crowd with her passes andball handling skills as well as her ability to knock down the open shotfrom deep behind the three-point arc.”
For the past five seasons, Trudeau-Langelier has been named tothe All-Star first team while playing on the boys’ team. She wasselected to the 18-and-under Canadian Youth Team last summer,representing Canada in Moscow at the Youth Olympic Games. Also lastsummer, Trudeau-Langelier was selected to the 20-and-under QuebecNational team and was named Most Valuable Player while helping her teamwin the Gold Medal. She also was invited to the first Canadian NikeCamp.
“What excites me most about Melissa is the experience she hasgained while playing on the boys’ high school team,” Mattox said. “Shealready is accustomed to the level of intensity, speed and quicknessshe’ll endure while competing in the Southeastern Conference.”
Trudeau-Langelier chose Kentucky over Manhattan College andBoston College. She joins Rita Adams, a 5-8 point guard of St. Louis,Mo., who signed in the November signing period.
