The first day of the SEC Championships ended with the Florida women andthe Arkansas men on top of the team standings. The Kentucky women are insixth place after three events and the men are in tenth after four events.
Kentucky’s Ola Sesay matched her season best jump of 21-1.25, but itwasn’t enough to beat long jump winner Monique Freeman of Louisiana State,who recorded a 21-2 leap.
Two other athletes set new personal bests on Saturday. Jennifer Kehoebested herself in the 3000-meter run. Her time of 10:11.73 won her eighthplace in the race. Chris Daniel, who finished ninth in the pole vault,added two inches to his former best height with his mark of 15-7.
Several runners earned places in the finals of their respective events.Mark Miller qualified for the 400-meter dash finals on Sunday. Millerfinished seventh Saturday with a time of 47.95. Jeff Ellis and JeffLimpert both qualified for the finals in the 800-meter run. The two menfinished in fifth and sixth places, respectively. In the one mile run,Jack Morgan qualified for tomorrow’s finals after clocking 4:14.46 in therace.
ADDITION: Lutisha Shittu and Michelle Williams both earned spots inSunday’s finals of the 55-meter hurdles.
The shot put finals earned Suzie Von Bernuth seventh place and Scott Theiseighth place. Von Bernuth had a throw of 44-11, and Theis had a mark of55-9.
Sunday’s competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the men’sweight throw finals.
