BOCA RATON, Fla. – Sophomore centerfielder Beau Moore went 2-for-4 with six RBI in the UK (0-2, 0-0 SEC) baseball team’s 10-11 loss to Florida Atlantic (5-0) on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Kentucky jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on junior Aaron McGlone’s solo home run in the first inning. Moore blasted a three-run shot in the third to give UK a 4-2 lead.
FAU answered with one run in the bottom of the third, and three in both the fifth and sixth innings. The Owls led 9-5 after seven innings. In a game that featured six lead changes, the Cats battled in the top of the ninth, down four runs. Freshman Pete Rasmusen reached first on a fielder’s choice. Junior Andy Green then walked with two outs in the inning. With runners on first and second, Moore connected for his second three-run shot of the day to pull Kentucky within one. McGlone followed with a single and sophomore John Wilson gave Kentucky the lead, 10-9, with a two-run home run.
Junior Josh Paxton (0-1) came on in relief to start the bottom of the ninth, but fell short, walking the first two batters he faced. Senior Jason Chaney entered the game with runners on first and second. FAU’s George Roig later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Dickie Hart, handing the Cats their second loss of the season.
Kentucky faces FAU tomorrow, Feb. 14, in the final game of the series at 12 p.m.
