LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky softball team (21-38, 4-16 SEC) will play hostto the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday, April 28, at the UK SoftballComplex with a doubleheader set to begin at 6 p.m.
UK is led by sophomores Leslie Kwiatkowski and Tiffany Kruse. Kwiatkowskileads UK in seven offensive categories including batting average, with a.387 mark this season. The center fielder also leads the Wildcats in runs(36), hits (70), home runs (6), RBI (37), total bases (102) and sluggingpercentage (.564).
Kruse has recorded 67 hits this season and leads UK in triples with five.Both Kruse and Kwiatkowski are the only Wildcats to have started all 59games for UK this season.
Arkansas (37-24, 12-10) has won 13 of its last 16 games including a 2-1upset win over 7th-ranked LSU on Saturday, April 24. The Razorbacks arethird in the SEC Western Division behind leaders LSU and Alabama.
Dana Gulik leads the Razorbacks in hitting with a .304 average. Gulik’s32 runs, 58 hits, and 64 total bases are also team-highs. The junior hasstolen 26 bases this season, second in the SEC behind frontrunners DeeDouglas from LSU and UK’s own Beth Fogle.
Arkansas has a team earned run average of 1.65, fourth best in the SEC.Tammy Kincaid is the Razorback leader with a 16-9 record this season.Kincaid has struck out 160 batters this season in 196.1 innings of work.She has pitched 18 complete games and seven shutouts.
The all-time series between the two schools is tied 2-2. Last year inFayetteville, Ark., UK earned a split. The Wildcats captured the firstgame, 5-2 while Arkansas won the second game, 8-0.
UK is currently riding a nine-game losing streak, its longest losingstreak since the 1997 season, when the Wildcats lost 16 consecutive games.
The Florida Gators swept the four-game series against UK last weekend inGainesville, Fla. The Wildcats stranded 28 runners during the series asFlorida outscored UK, 24-4. Pitcher Keary Camunas set a new school recordon Friday evening when she recorded 13 strikeouts in UK’s 6-1 loss to theGators.
