The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to Bowling Green in double overtime on Sunday, ending the Cats’ run in the Mid-American Conference tournament.
The game was tied 0-0 until the 117th minute, when BG’s Fred Degand headed a ball into the UK net giving BG a 1-0 lead. UK then went on an all-out attack, but Bowling Green countered as Chris Kraft’s slow-rolling shot found its way into an empty UK net to give BG the 2-0 win. With the win, BG improves to 10-7-2, while UK falls to 12-9. Bowling Green advances to next week’s MAC final, where it will face top-seeded Akron.
Akron (16-2-1) advanced to the final by virtue of a 3-2 triple-overtime win over Buffalo (13-8). Allen Eller’s goal in the 122nd minute secured the win for Akron.
