The University of Kentucky softball team continues early-season road action on Thursday, as the Wildcats travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to meet Middle Tennessee State in a non-conference doubleheader. UK (9-12) is coming off a second-place performance at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational this past weekend after turning in a 3-1 performance in four tournament games.
Middle Tennessee State (8-5) has won three of its last four games and seven of its last 10 contests. The Blue Raiders have been solid at the plate in their last four games, recording 46 total hits, for an average of 11.5 per game. MTSU has also played solid defense, committing just two errors in those four games and just 11 in 13 total outings. MTSU leads the all-time series against UK 2-0, having swept a doubleheader against the Wildcats at the UK Softball Stadium. The Blue Raiders won the first game, 4-0, before claiming a 4-3 decision in game 2. Following the MTSU doubleheader, the Wildcats return to play host to the 1998 Kentucky Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the UK Softball Stadium. Joining UK will be Eastern Kentucky, Ohio, Kent State, Wright State and Indiana State. Action begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday as Indiana State takes on Eastern Kentucky in the first of six games. The tournament concludes on Sunday, as Kent State and Indiana State meet at 9 a.m. and concludes when UK takes on Wright State at 5:45 p.m.
