LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tiffany Wait tied a career-high with 27 points,including a 3-pointer during a critical second-half run, as Kentucky beat No. 8Georgia 80-76 Sunday.
Trailing 62-61 with 7:19 to play, the Wildcats (15-8, 5-6 SoutheasternConference) used a 12-2 run to take the lead for good at 73-64 with 2:40remaining. Wait and Laura Meadows each scored four points during the run.
Meadows had 19 points and LaTonya McDole added 15 and 10 rebounds forKentucky.
Twin sisters Coco and Kelly Miller led the Bulldogs (19-4, 7-4) with 22 and13 points, respectively.
The Wildcats made 28 of 37 foul shots – Wait hit 13 of 14 and McDole 9 of 11- while Georgia went to the line only 19 times. The Bulldogs shot only 38percent from the field and turned the ball over 20 times.
Georgia scored the first basket of the game, then was held without a fieldgoal over the next five minutes. Meadows scored seven points during a 15-2 runthat gave Kentucky a 15-4 lead with 14:10 to play in the half.
The Wildcats took their biggest lead of the half, 29-16, on an Erica Jackson3-pointer with 6:26 remaining.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to five before a technical foul on Georgia coachAndy Landers sparked a 5-0 Kentucky run, boosting the lead to 42-32 with 1:26to play.
A 5-0 Georgia run in the final 40 seconds cut the margin to 45-39 athalftime.
In the second half, a Coco Miller jumper gave Georgia its second lead of thegame at 50-49 with 15:45 to play. A Kiesha Brown basket gave Georgia itsbiggest lead at 61-55 with 11:20 remaining.
