LEXINGTON, Kty.–The University of Kentucky women’s team defeated Southeastern Conference rival Mississippi State 5-2 at home Sunday.

With the win, the Wildcats (9-5, 4-5 SEC) posted their fourth SEC victory of the season. UK’s Massoumeh Emami won her first match of the season at No. 2 singles, defeating Amelie Detriviere 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. Emami also teamed with Kelly Brown to overcome Wills and Ivana Belancic 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles match.

Kathy Herring and Christy Sigurski both won in straight sets for the Wildcats. Herring, playing at No. 3 singles, overcame Nathalie Odryzynski 6-1, 6-4. Sigurski won at No. 4 doubles, beating Leanne Wills 6-1, 6-2.

UK’s Caroline Kirk came back to defeat Anca Vasiloaica 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match.

The Cats take a break from SEC play as they hit the road to face #18 Notre Dame on Saturday.
