LEXINGTON, Kty. — A pair of University of Kentucky players were selected on the first day of the Major League Baseball Draft.
Senior Matt Borne, a right-handed pitcher from Lexington, was chosen in the sixth round with the 179th pick by the Chicago White Sox. Borne finished the season with a 3-6 mark and a 7.78 ERA. Borne appeared in 19 games for the Wildcats, striking out a team-high 68 batters. He also recorded two saves.
Junior Josh Loggins, a catcher/outfielder, was selected in the 11th round by the San Diego Padres with the 322nd pick. Loggins led the Wildcats in eight different offensive categories, including batting average (.384), hits (93) and RBIs (63). Loggins tied for the team-lead in home runs with 15.
