The University of Kentucky volleyball team (6-3) lost to Western Kentucky Tuesday night 3-0 for only the second loss in series history against the Lady Toppers.

The Wildcats were led by junior Katie Eiserman with 16 kills and six digs on the night. Kentucky’s two seniors also posted impressive numbers in the match as LaTanya Webb and Jenny Muzzey recorded 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

The WKU squad was led by junior Kim Carpenter with 19 kills, four digs and three block assists. Sophomore Melissa Starck added nine kills and eight digs for the Lady Toppers. The 8-3 start for WKU marks the best in school history.

“We were reactive rather than pro-active,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We were too consumed with the other side. Not to take anything away from Western, but we weren’t able to take them out of their rhythm and we weren’t able to find ours.”

The Wildcats will play host to Arkansas State at 7 p.m. on Friday in Memorial Coliseum in the second match of the Kentucky Conference Challenge.

The tournament will begin at 5 p.m. when Clemson takes on Southern Methodist. Tournament action continues on Saturday when the Cats face SMU at 12 p.m. and ASU at 7 p.m. in the final match of the weekend.
