Wildcats host Eastern Kentucky for season opener.

The 1999 University of Kentucky volleyball schedule has been finalized withthe regular season beginning on September 1 when the Wildcats play host toEastern Kentucky.

Fans will get their first glimpse of second-year coach Jona Braden’sWildcats at the “Blue and White Scrimmage” on August 28 at 2 p.m. atMemorial Coliseum. This year’s team will have four new faces as threefreshmen and one junior college transfer will begin their UK careers in 1999.In addition to the always competitive SEC slate, the UK schedule ishighlighted by three tournament appearances. The Wildcats will playVirginia Tech, Northern Illinois and Villanova at the Virginia TechInvitational on September 3-4. UK will host Southeast Missouri State,Central Michigan and Hofstra on September 17-18 in the Kentucky ConferenceChallenge. Kentucky is scheduled to play its final tournament of the seasonbetween the SEC Tournament and the NCAA First Round when it travels toOrlando to play Marquette and South Florida on November 26-27 at Disney’sWide World of Sports. The University of Tennessee will host the 1999 SECTournament in Knoxville on November 19-21.

UK hosts the first game of its home-and-home series with intra-state rivalLouisville on September 21 at 7 p.m. and will then travel to Louisville toplay the Cardinals on October 24. The conference schedule begins onSeptember 24 at South Carolina while the conference home opener is set forOctober 1 against Alabama at 7 p.m. The UK conference home schedule willconclude on November 14 with USC.
