LEXINGTON, Ky. – Redshirt freshman tight end Chase Harp and sophomore strongsafety David Johnson will be lost for the season because of injuries,Kentucky Coach Hal Mumme confirmed Wednesday.

Harp has a stress fracture in the upper portion of his rightfemur (thigh bone). Complaining of pain after last Saturday’s gameagainst Connecticut, Harp was tested and the stress fracture wasrevealed. No surgery will be required and the injury is expected toheal in approximately 8-10 weeks. Harp played in the Wildcats’ firsttwo games and was listed as a starter at the “H” receiver, a combinationtight end/slot receiver position. He caught one pass for 12 yards andwas commended by the coaching staff for his blocking. Harp did not seegame action in 1998 while playing quarterback. He moved to tight endduring 1999 spring practice.

Johnson will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair a fracture ofhis right orbital bone (eye socket). He sustained the injury whileknocking loose a fumble during the first quarter of the season openeragainst Louisville. Johnson was UK’s starting strong safety as a true freshman in 1998. Heranked fourth on the team in tackles, made numerous big plays, and wasnamed first-team Freshman All-America.
