Women’s soccer dominates in second-straight win.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 16, 1999) — The University ofKentucky women’s soccer team scored adominating 3-0 victory Thursday night over thevisiting Marshall Thundering Herd earning theWildcats their second straight victory.

Sophomore forward Annie Gage added a goal,her second of the season, and an assist as theCats outshot the Herd 25 to one, a season-highshot total for UK.

UK (3-2-1, 1-1 SEC) got on the board at the 12:52 mark when freshmanKeri Boyce netted her third goal of the season, a high shot that MU (3-2-1)goalkeeper Kristina Shamel’s out-stretched arms tipped. The ball sailed highand into the top of the net. Midfielders Jen Reese and Aimee Brown werecredited with assists on the play.

Gage struck next for the Cats when she took a pass on the left side of thefield from freshman Elizabeth Ramsey and fired a five-yard shot into the topleft corner giving UK a 2-0 lead at the 60:10 mark.

Freshman Jami Fritter closed out the scoring for UK when she scored herfirst goal of the season. Fritter, playing in just her second collegiate game,found the ball off a rebounded shot and her header went in the right side ofthe MU goal.

UK goalkeeper Beth Wells pitched the shutout in goal and made a save onMU’s only shot which came in the first half. MU freshman keeper KristinaShamel managed 12 saves in her first collegiate game.

“I thought we came out and played well for the most part even though weweren’t able to capitalize on several scoring chances,” UK coach WarrenLipka said. “It always feels good to get a win at home.”

UK returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 19, when the Cats play host to theDayton Flyers. The match at the UK Soccer Complex will begin at 5 p.m.
