LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team heads to Baltimore, Md.,Saturday, Sept. 18, to begin fall tournament play at the National ClayCourt Championships.

The Cats’ squad, comprised of Carolina Mayorga, Lauren Rookledge andShannon Stafford, will begin pre-qualifying matches on Saturday, whenRookledge and Stafford take the courts at 8:30 a.m.

Stafford, the No. 7 seed, will battle Renata Stoop of Boise State, whileRookledge will face No. 3 seed Alana Brodrick of Miami (Fla.).

Mayorga, UK’s top returnee, received a bye into the qualifying draw basedon her outstanding ’99 campaign.

“It’s nice to start a season at a national event where you can face suchstrong competition,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “It should really be goodfor our team.”
