Men’s golf in prime position for their best season finish.

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team posted its lowest opening day score of the season on Monday at the Legends Invitational. The Wildcats followed a first round 308 with a season-low round of 289.

In his first tournament of the season, junior Wes Furnish stands in a tie for 12th place after turning in UK’s low score of the day with a 147 (77-70). Senior Ron Layman finished the day one stroke back at 148 (75-73) and in a tie for 20th place heading into the tournament’s final day.

As a team, the Cats are currently in 7th place in a field of 16 teams with a score of 597, eight strokes behind the Louisville Cardinals who lead the tournament after posting an opening day 589. After finishing 11th on Sept. 11-12 at the Hawkeye Invitational, the Cats stand in a prime position to record their best finish of the season with a low round on Tuesday.
