CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The University of Kentucky junior varsity football team lost40-37 to Campbellsville in its final season game in Campbellsville, Ky.,on Monday.
UK jumped out to a 3-0 lead early, but soon saw the Tigers (1-2) take a7-3 lead on a 77-yard rush by freshman tailback Arrike Britton. TheCats struggled to stop Britton all night as he ended the game with eightrushes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Overall the Tigers out-rushedthe Cats 466 to 88 and scored five rushing touchdowns. The Tigerscompleted 3-of-11 passes for 40 yards, one pass for a touchdown.
“We made too many mistakes to win tonight,” UK Coach Sonny Dykessaid. “We just got too far behind and couldn’t catch up.”
The Tigers took a 40-24 lead late in the third quarter before UKquarterback Mark Perry connected with wide receiver Tom Malloy for a24-yard TD pass. Perry then hit a diving Malloy in the end zone from26-yards out in the fourth quarter to make it 40-37.
Perry led the UK aerial attack, throwing 24 of 38 passes for 262yards and three touchdowns. Malloy, along with teammate Gary Hughes,led all receivers with a combined 16 catches for 271 yards and fourtouchdowns. Jonathan Chapman led the Cats on the ground, rushing sixtimes for 53 yards.
The Wildcats ended their season with a 4-1 overall record, thebest junior varsity record in the Hal Mumme era.
