Chapel Hill, N.C. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving teamskicked off the first day of the Nike Cup Invitational on Thursday withKelley Miller, David Tweedie, and Clayton Moss leading the way.
Kelley Miller swam her way to a second-place finish in the finals of the500-yard freestyle. Seeded fourth heading into the finals, Miller moved uptwo places finishing second with a time of 4:55.58.
Also on the women’s side, freshman Lisa Beavers finished third in the 50freestyle.
The UK women’s 200 freestyle relay finished third, while the women’s 400medley relay placed fourth overall.
Junior David Tweedie finished third in the finals of the men’s 500freestyle with a time of 4:30.95.
Freshman diver Clayton Moss captured the men’s one-meter diving event.Sophomore Aaron Kirkpatrick placed fourth on the one-meter event.
Carrie Knoeber, Sarah Fields, and Michelle Glowatch went three-four-fiveon the three-meter diving event. Freshman Kelli Frost finished eighth onthe three-meter.
“We are real happy with they way the kids swam today,” UK coach GaryConelly said. “We didn’t bring all our big guns but all the ones we havestepped up. I can’t think of one bad swim. The divers had a really good dayas well, especially on the men’s side so we are excited for the next twodays of competition.”
Day two of the three day Nike Cup meet begins Friday with preliminaries inthe morning and the finals in the evening.
