DALLAS – Carlos Drada, the 9th-ranked player in the nation, advanced to thesecond round of singles at the Rolex National Intercollegiate IndoorChampionships in Dallas after beating No. 100 Justin Natale of BrownUniversity on Thursday, 7-6 (1), 7-5. Drada, the tournament’s fifth seed,will play Rodrigo Echagaray of Kansas tomorrow. Echagaray defeated AndrewPark of Southern California in the first round, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0.
In women’s doubles action, No. 23 Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten, UK’stop doubles pair, breezed through the first round, defeating AshleighDolman and Maria Galoustova of Oklahoma State, 6-2, 6-1. Mayorga and Wittencontinued their fine play into the second round, but ran into the toughestdraw of the tournament, the top-seeded Zuzana Lesenarova and KatarinaValkyova, of San Diego and lost a close one, 6-3, 7-5.
