LEXINGTON, Kty. — Four University of Kentucky women’s basketball players werenamed to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, CommissionerRoy Cramer announced on Tuesday.
For the fourth consecutive season, senior Tiffany Wait joinedthe SEC’s Academic Honor Roll. Wait is completing her second year atUK’s School of Pharmacy and holds a 3.19 grade-point average. Sheaverages 9.5 points per game and is only eight points shy of becomingthe Cats’ sixth all-time leading scorer.
Senior Katie Vieth and junior Laura Meadows both receive thehonor for the second straight season. Vieth, who charted a perfect 4.0GPA last semester and was named to the UK Athletics’ Director HonorRoll, has a cumulative GPA of 3.50 in art studio. She is a 6-3 centerfor the Wildcats. She plans to work on a master’s degree at UK aftergraduation in sports administration.
Meadows is a psychology major with the teams’ highest GPA of3.84. She is currently the Cat’s second leading scorer (11.4 ppg) andthird leading rebounder (6.1 rpg). In addition, Meadows was also namedto the SEC’s “Good Works Team” which honors a member of each school whogives back to their community.
Senior Natalie Martinez is a first-time recipient of the award.The 5-6 guard is a political science major with a 3.42 GPA. Sheaverages 4.2 points per game and leads the team in three-point fieldgoal percentage, nailing at least one three-pointer in four straightgames. Martinez, who will begin work on a master’s degree in politicalscience at UK in the fall, hopes to one day be the first female ofgovernor of her home state New Mexico.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0grade-point average for either the past year or a cumulative GPA of 3.0or higher for their career. He or she must be a sophomore or higher interms of academic classification and have 24 semester or 36 quarterhours toward a degree.
