GymKats start competiton at SEC Championships Saturday.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team will begin post-season competition when it participates in the 2000 Southeastern Conference Championships on Saturday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla.
The GymKats (4-10, 1-4 SEC) will compete against Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Louisiana State and host Florida when they tumble into this year’s battle for the conference crown.
The Kats posted their highest score of the season on Friday, March 10, when they defeated No. 9 West Virginia 195.525-194.525. The team score was also the third highest in school history. SEC Athlete of the Week Krissy Hoeferlin led the way for the GymKats, winning the all-around with a career high 39.325. It was the final home meet for Hoeferlin and fellow senior Mila Chitwood. Fittingly, the two tied for first place on floor exercise with season-high scores of 9.875.
Rotations for the event will be drawn on Friday afternoon. There are six rotations to the event, including the four apparatus and two byes. Upon the conclusion of the event, awards for SEC Gymnast of the Year and Freshman of the Year will be given.
