LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will face the Texas A&MAggies on Saturday, May 13, in first-round regional action at the 2000 NCAAChampionships in Berkeley, Calif. The 29th-ranked Wildcats (12-10) wereselected today by the NCAA selection committee.
The Cats are making there fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, TexasA&M finished the season 14-9, ranked 40th in the nation. UK leads theseries 6-0 with its last win coming in 1991.
“Texas A&M is going to be a tough first round match for us and we will haveto prepare if we are going to get a win,” coach Mark Guilbeau said. “Rightnow we are just really excited about getting a berth and going out toCalifornia. We are just looking forward to the experience of playing tennisin this environment.”
Sixth-ranked California-Berkeley will take on Pacific (Calif.) in the otherregional match on Saturday with the two winners squaring off on Sunday, May14, for a spot in the final 16. The championship will be decided May18-26, in Malibu, Calif.
