Wildcats earn conference-best academic achievement.

(Nov. 10, 1999) — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer teamplaced a Southeastern Conference-best 11 playerson the SEC Academic Honor Roll, the conferenceoffice announced Wednesday.

Lee Baker, Jason Bell, Tyler Cook, GiovanniFernandes, Rob Frey, Ilkka Jantti, Lee London,Chris McAlpine, Brian O’Leary, Michael Sticklerand Marc Theriault were selected for the honorbased on their academic achievements.

“We’re so proud of what these men haveaccomplished both on and off the field,” UK CoachIan Collins said. “They truly exemplify the’student-athlete’ concept.”

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete musteither have a 3.0 GPA for the past year or have acumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a sophomoreor higher in terms of academic classification andhave 24 hours toward a degree.

The soccer Cats will test their athletic mettle on Friday, when they take onNorthern Illinois for an NCAA Tournament berth. Kickoff is set for 7:30p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
