LAS VEGAS — Senior Brien Baltzells two penalty kicks proved to be thedeciding factor as the UK mens soccer team defeated UNLV 2-1 inovertime at the UNLV Classic Friday night.

Baltzells first attempt came at the 19:36 mark. With the goal, UK tied theRunnin Rebs 1-1. Neither team would score again until eight and a halfminutes into sudden death overtime, when Baltzell again scored a penaltykick to give the Wildcats the victory. Forward Michael Griego scored theonly goal for UNLV six minutes into the game.

“We are really happy to get this victory,” UK head coach Ian Collins said.”Our guys fought hard to come back after being down. UNLV is a scrappyteam, and were just happy we won.”

UK freshman Brian OLeary faced 22 shots and only allowed the goal byGriego. The Cats had 17 shots on goal.

With the win, Kentucky improves to 5-1-1 on the season, while UNLV fallsto 2-4-0.

UK now faces Fresno State in their next match of the Classic on Sunday.The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals last season. “This shouldbe a very well-played game,” Collins said. “Both teams play attractive stylesof soccer, so were definitely looking forward to playing them.”

UK and Fresno State kick it off at 5:00 p.m. eastern time.
