Cats to host The Citadel next.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Sept. 13, 1998 ) — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer teamdropped another heartbreaker on Sunday, falling 2-1 to Appalachian State inthe Greensboro Soccer Classic.

Appalachian State (5-1-0) struck early, as Naoshi Yamauchi found the netjust eight minutes into the game, giving ASU a 1-0 lead. Kentucky managedto pull even before the half, when Lee Baker headed a Brent Rainey crosspast the ASU keeper in the 41st minute. The game appeared to be headedfor overtime when ASU was awarded a penalty kick with just 11 minutesremaining in regulation. Mark Hemphill capitalized for the Mountaineers,burying the shot to give ASU the 2-1 victory.

With the loss, the Cats fall to 0-5-0 on the season. UK will look for its firstwin of the season this Friday, when the Cats host The Citadel in theKentucky Invitational Soccer Tournament. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at theUK Soccer Complex.
