(Aug. 20, 2000) — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated Purdue in a 4-0 decision in an exhibition match on August 20 at the UK Soccer Complex.

Junior Annie Gage scored two goals for the Wildcats, the first at the 11:36 mark on a penalty kick. Dee Slupski and Lauren Russell, both freshmen, netted the two other goals in the game. Slupski scored from the center on an open net and Russell nailed the inside roof while goalkeeper Jocelyn Cavalier was down. Assisting on the goals were Elizabeth Ramsey, Keri Boyce, and Jen Wilkinson.

“We are happy with the results of the game, but we need to polish up a bit to get ready for Friday’s game,” Coach Warren Lipka said afterwards.

While Kentucky had 16 shots on goal, the Boilermakers only found two. Similarly, with corner kicks, the Wildcats had five as compared to zero for Purdue.

The Cats will open their regular season on Friday, Aug. 25 as they play host to the Cincinnati Bearcats at the UK Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
