VERSAILLES, Ky. (Sept. 2, 2000) — The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s cross-country squads helped give the Cats a sweep over Louisville Friday, September 1, at the Woodford Cross Country Trials.
In addition to the victory posted by the UK men’s soccer team over Louisville on Friday, the cross country Catsoutdistanced the Cardinals and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. The men and women placed four of the top six finishersin each race, with the women taking the top three spots.
Youth was served as freshmen Caitlin Phillips and Amy Guard finished 1-2 in the first race of their UK careers withtimes of 12:00.8 and 12:03.2 in the two-mile run. Sophomore Marie Patton claimed third in 12:08.0 and senior Liz Attig’stime of 12:41.0 was good for sixth place.
On the men’s side, sophomores Hunter Spencer and Kevin O’Connor tied for first with a time of 16:16 in the5,000-meter run. Sophomore Thomas Morgan finished fourth in 16:41 while freshman Justin Amason took sixth placewith a time of 17:04.
