The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to run in the University of Alabama Crimson Classic on Saturday, Sept. 16.
The Cats are set to compete in their second meet of the season after getting off to an excellent start in the Woodford Cross Country Trials on Sept. 1.
UK dominated the competition that day, and both the women and the men came away victorious in the team competition against Louisville and Eastern Kentucky. In both races, the Cats placed four runners in the top six.
The UK women were led by the freshmen duo of Caitlin Phillips and Amy Guard. Running in their first collegiate meet, Phillips and Guard crossed the finish line in first and second place. Sophomore Marie Patton claimed third in the two-mile run, while senior Liz Attig finished sixth.
Youth also contributed on the men’s side as three sophomores, Hunter Spencer, Kevin O’Connor, and Thomas Morgan, grabbed three of the top four spots. Freshman Justin Amason garnered sixth-place honors in his first collegiate meet.
