The University of Kentucky women’s golf team improved its team standing after posting a 316 team total in the second day of competition at theLady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., to move up one spot to 18th. Kentucky now stands with a 639 two-day total, 58 strokes out of first place.
The Kats were led by sophomore Rachel Lester, who improved her standing after shooting a 5-over par 77 on Saturday to bring her total to 156 anda 54th place standing.
Auburn remained atop the standings with its Saturday score of 290, to bring its two-day total to 581. Auburn’s Celeste Troche continued todominate the competition, shooting a 1-under par 71 and sits 5-under par with a 139 for the two rounds.
Other UK golfers include sophomore Kelly Anders, who shot a 77 in the second round to bring her total to a 58th place 157 and junior TowaOkiyama, who improved to 79th place after shooting a 79 for a total of 162. Rounding out UK’s team roster were Kristen Pepe and JennyThrogmorton. Pepe, brought her two-day total to 165 after shooting an 84 in Saturday’s action, while senior Throgmorton dropped to 97th placeafter shooting an 83 for the second straight day. Freshman Eva Gessner, who is competing in the event as an individual, moved up to 91st aftershooting an 81 in the second round to bring her total to 165 and tie her with Pepe.
The tournament, which is being played at the Furman University Golf Course, continues through Sunday.
